Whats the difference between materials and equipment?

In an assignment i have to write what you need to open a clothing shop and i have the following categorys: premises transport materials stock equipment fixtures and fittings general i dont really understand the different between materials and equipment

1. actually there like the same thing. there both used in the process of making stuff. i usually hear materials in doing a science project and equipment in building a playground or something.
2. for a clothing store(from your list) equipment would be premises transport fixture and fittings materials stock this might make it easier equipment is to run the business materials is to keep the business running
3. To simplify, if you were a seamstress your equipment would be your sewing machine, scissors, tape measure etc and your material would be denim, silk, cotton, zips, buttons, etc.
