Is Ikea a good place to shop for furniture or no?
I am moving in June & I am leaving most of my stuff at home.So when I live in the new apartment I am thinking of getting some stuff at Ikea. Is this stuff good quality? Or will it fall apart easily?

- yeah ikea is good quality most of the stuff i have is from there. best furniture store i know!
- Ikea is ok. They test their furniture first before shipping elsewhere. Their products are sturdy.
- ikea has really great stuff. as long as the things are put together properly they shouldn't fall apart. but shop around for some better deals as well there are a lot of great things on the market today
- I've found Ikea to be on both ends of the spectrum. A lot of their larger items are very well made and a lot of their smaller items and wood items are cheap crap that will only last a year or so. It really depends on what you are after and how much use it will get. I have four kids so my Ikea pieces really get put to the test! For instance, I have the entire set of Erktorp furniture in my living room and for 3 years it has held up beautifully. I have 4 different slipcover colors for when I want to change the look around and have washed these in my washing machine with no problems. I've also purchased large wicker chairs that have held up great through the years. On the other hand, I've purchased small wooden tables and the Hemnes dressers and been very dissapointed. The wood is very soft and the finish on them is very thin. (Easily scratchable.) The drawers in the dressers are a cardboard like bottom and bow with any amount of heavy clothing, like jeans, in them. After only 1 year, one of my Hemnes has a ruined drawer bottom and the others are nearly there. The other drawback to the wooden furniture is that self-assembly almost always goes wrong. More than once the screw holes have not been drilled in the right place, (1/2" off), which makes the assembly come to a screeching halt. I've had to swap pieces at the store because of this. Frustrating! (This problem happened with two items from the Malm series.) All in all, Ikea can be a great place to find trendy pieces for low cost but as always, you need to really inspect the items in the showroom before purchasing. Good luck with your new apartment!
